Just about everyone enjoys seeing wild birds
at their feeder, but how many have ever had the thrill of actually
feeding them by hand? Introducing A Bird in Hand™, the simple and
remarkable bird trainer that turns passive bird watching into an "up
close and personal" participant sport.
Our newest mail order product is cleverly designed to train backyard
flyers to actually come to you at mealtime or any other time through a
proven method that smoothly transfers bird feeding at the feeder to a Bird in Hand frame and, ultimately, to a real person.
I live up in New England, and I've always
loved to watch birds informally. I haven't gone on too many birding
adventures out in the wild, but we do have one of those small, plastic
feeders - the ones with the suction cups - attached right outside our
living room window, and small birds come in droves. Sparrows, finches,
jays... They are lovely to watch. So you can imagine my delight when my husband, Rob, brought home
this amazing product last November, called the "Bird in Hand!" He told
me it was a way that I could do more than just watch the birds. It was
basically a frame that looked like a seated person, and we dressed it
up in my old coat, gloves, and hat and put it out in the yard on a
chair, near the bird feeder. It was really easy to set up - it's made
of steel rods, so it didn't fall over or bend, and it was steady enough
that almost immediately birds were venturing to it as often as to the
old plastic feeder.
But this is the exciting part... After a week or two, when we
figured they had grown accustomed to the Bird in Hand feeder, Rob
helped me dress up just the way we had dressed up the steel figure, and
I sat out in the chair in the yard and held out my hand. I never
thought the birds would actually be fooled, but after a little while a
chickadee landed right in my hand! It was magical.
Now the neighborhood kids come over sometimes and love to take a
turn in the bird-feeding chair. Even Rob enjoys it! All they have to do
is put on that coat and hat and sit really still...
I'm so glad we got to have such a unique experience! Now we can feed
birds from our own hands any time we want to. And because there were so
many more birds looking for food they could no longer find in the wild,
fall was the perfect time to get started. What a wonderful gift!

What is the secret to the success of The Bird in Hand? A Bird in
Hand capitalizes on the little known fact that when birds frequent a
feeder, they actually become somewhat tame over time. Once birds grow
accustomed to feeding from this device covered in a jacket and cap,
it's an easy and natural transition of a few days to week's time for
them to take food from an actual person wearing the same outfit and
seated in its place.
Our testing was done in New England and we've had chickadees,
nuthatches, titmice, and goldfinches all eating from our "bird trainer"
and our hands. We are confident that any yard with an established bird
feeder will have success with this product, particularly in the fall
and winter months, when there is less natural food to be found in the
wild. It's a perfect time start right now - and it makes a great
holiday present for any age! Try one today!
