The Original SunClock™ :: A History of Time Keeping :: Timeline
We are thrilled to present the world's first consumer "sundial" to truly tell accurate time! All of the sundials currently offered in mail order are solely decorative and are useless as keepers of time. Ours is the first absolutely correct solar clock custom crafted to match the zip code of the owner's residence. Our pursuit of a user-friendly and affordable sun clock led us to an obscure category of devices called "helio-chronometers." They often resembled mariners' sextants and were decidedly complex and intimidating contraptions. Historically, telling time by the sun has required complicated reference charts and extensive installation procedures. Massive sculptural chronometers can also be exquisitely precise, but remain in the realm of wealthy patrons. We have applied the principles underlying helio-chronometers to create an elegant and easy-to-use solar timepiece. Our solid brass and anodized aluminum SunClock helio-chronometer takes all of the tinkering and guess work out of telling time by the sun. Each unit is custom-machined to operate at a precise location in North America and employs a rotating aluminum sun-tracking cylinder. The result is a device that is accurate within minutes year round, yet terrifically simple to install and operate. Our handsome and sturdy SunClock is personalized with the precise latitude of its owner and presents a fun and educational way for all ages to tell time. It is a delight to introduce this truly breakthrough product. The clean, modern design is ideal for deck, lawn, or garden applications. Americraft's vendor in New England is ready to custom-manufacture and reliably drop-ship SunClocks to your customers. We are pleased to provide direct market retailers with a generous profit margin on this item without the burden of inventories. The name "Helio-Chronometer" derives from the Greek words for Sun, Time, and Measure. Each helio-chronometer we make features a custom-made latitude plate, which corresponds to that locale's latitudinal position on the globe. This plate positions the Analemma Tube perpendicular to the path of the sun to pass through the pinhole and strike the Analemma inside the tube. As the sun rises higher in the sky during the summer months, the rays will strike lower into the tube, and as the sun sinks closer to the horizon during winter months, the rays will strike higher.
